We’re a group of committed business, civic, artistic, and community leaders who have been working on Colorado’s proposal to the Sundance Institute.

  • Yes! The Colorado Friends of the Sundance Institute is housed at the Boulder Chamber Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Donors can choose for their gift to go there or directly to the Sundance Institute.

  • Funds raised through this effort will be a part of Colorado’s bid proposal to the Sundance Institute. The funds will be used to offset transition costs for the Sundance Institute, to backfill funding that currently comes from Utah funding sources, and to act as a down payment for the first festival in 2027 in Colorado.

  • The committee to bring the Sundance Film Festival to Colorado is a collaborative effort made up of Governor Jared Polis, the City of Boulder, the University of Colorado, the Boulder Chamber, Visit Boulder, and many influential business and civic leaders. The philanthropic effort is chaired by former Colorado Senate President Steve Fenberg and the fund is housed at the Boulder Chamber Foundation.

  • The Sundance Film Festival will continue to be in Park City, Utah for 2025 and 2026. The Sundance Institute will host its first festival in the new home in 2027. Sundance Film Festival takes place at the end of January and into the first week of February.

  • From over 60 applications, Colorado has been named as one of three finalists, along with Salt Lake City and Cincinnati.

  • If Colorado is selected, the committee will work with each donor on a workable timeline for them. However, contributions will be expected in 2025, with some flexibility into 2026.

  • In the event that Colorado is not chosen as the relocation site for the Sundance Film Festival, we will not execute on the pledged financial support and funding commitments will be released .
